DSM Somos and the magazines NewDesign and Time-Compression Technologies have announced a call for entries for the eMotion in Motion design competition for students and professional designers. The theme is “ProtoFunctional® Safety in Travel.” The competition invites participants to challenge traditional concepts in industrial design, and explore the creativity and innovation possible through layer-additive technologies.
The student and qualified designer competition categories are open for registration at www.dsmsomos.com/e-motion through April 2003. Projects must be submitted by June 20, 2003, in STL electronic format.
The competition will explore how advanced ProtoFunctional® materials and layer-additive technologies can affect presentation and development in the design arena. Once associated exclusively with RP, layer-additive technologies are gradually evolving into a rapid manufacturing industry.
It is possible that, in the near future, these technologies will permit significant cost and time savings in a variety of manufacturing applications. The benefit for the design world is the design freedom to work with complex forms and structures.
The contest is open to students officially enrolled for the university year 2002-2003 in the faculties of design, industrial design, or engineering in a college, school, or university; and to all graduated designers, design engineers, and engineers. All finalists will receive a three-dimensional rapid prototype of their design. mold making etc
The awards ceremony will take place at the TCT 2003 Fair & Conference (MICC, Manchester, UK, October 15–16, 2003).
